If you have an upright vacuum , the problem may lie in the brush bar. Like any tool out there, the brush bar can also become filled with debris and entangled in hair it picks up from your floors. Therefore, you need to do proper maintenance so the bar would provide you with optimal performance. The first step to resetting the brush bar is, of course, unplugging the vacuum. You never want to do anything maintenance-wise while the unit is plugged in.
Then, turn over your vacuum so you have access to the bottom side and you will see large screws that need to be removed. By unscrewing the screws, you take out the cover of the head and you gain access to the brush roll itself.
If you have a model with a movable head, then you do not have to worry about the cover. When you unscrew the screws, you instantly get access to the brush. The next step is to check whether the brush roll can spin. If you move it with your hands and try to spin it, but it stays still, this tells you that the brush is blocked.
The next step is unblocking it by taking it out and removing any debris build-up or hair that got stuck. The goal is to get the brush spinning freely again, so you should clean it until you achieve this. After you are done, do not forget to trace your steps back and reassemble the brush roll as it was before. When our electrical devices will not turn on, or turn on for only a short period, we usually reset them.
But this will not work with a vacuum. If you have a corded model, there are several things you can do. Firstly, check the cord. Are there any holes, indents, breakages?
If yes, the electricity is probably not reaching your vacuum. If no, there may be a bigger problem you need to contact customer service to solve.
All you have to do is gently remove all the filters some vacuums have one while some have two. Then wash them with cold water only, making sure never to apply any soaps, detergents or dishwashers. Continue to wash until the water runs out clear from the filters usually requiring about 10 rinses. Then just squeeze the water out or tap it out and then leave it to dry in a warm place for a day, do not microwave it or use dryers, just let it dry normally.
Once done replace it back and you are good to go. This will solve your overheating problems , however, if it is is not possible for you maintain the cleaning of your filters on a regular basis or the filters have been clogged and damaged, you can always replace it with newer ones from online or service centers giving an instant relief from the problem.
The brush heads are always picking up hair , dirt and dust from the surface while the vacuum is running and therefore, slowly the brush gets clogged up thus making it harder from the vacuum to maintain its efficiency and have to work extra hard to draw up the dirt thus slowly affecting the motors function and overheating it.
The bristly cylinder brush inside the vacuum head is responsible for picking up the dirt and dust, which might get clogged up from time to time because of the accumulation of debris. Initially unplug and turn off the vacuum cleaner and then turn the cleaner head upside down, if you have a hammerhead or move able style head then use a screw driver and push it downwards to create a leverage to release its head.
Unscrew the sole-plate using a coin to access the bar by turning it clockwise to open. The brush bar may not spin if the cleaner head is set too low. Some Dyson vacuums have removable cleaner heads, and if the head isn't locked into position, the motor that powers the brush bar won't operate. Locate the brush bar's on-off switch, commonly located on the handle just above the vacuum's body or in a slot on the side of its head.
Press the button once to reset the brush bar, then flip the vacuum back upright, plug it in and power it on. How do you troubleshoot a Dyson vacuum?
