The dwarves are Bilbo's friends for most of the Hobbit. In the beginning it was Smaug , then in the end of The Hobbit , Bilbo gains it. Well, Bilbo is a hobbit. Fili, Kili and Thorin were all killed. Dwarves are slightly bigger. There is only one hobbit in the book, and that is Bilbo Baggins.

Although, there are 13 dwarves in the book. The dwarves are happy because they are treated well with great houses. Thirteen dwarves, plus a wizard. Three dwarves but many unnamed die in the Battle of Five Armies. The three dwarves were Thorin, Fili and Kili. Fili and Kili fell defending Thorin. A burglar. Recover their gold. Thorin Oakenshield. They dwarves and the hobbit hear the Wargs howling.

The dwarves have found their treasure, which is what they came for, and for that they are very glad. But Bilbo just wants to be back in his hobbit-hole again!

Bombur is not really interested in the quest, choosing instead to eat, drink, and sleep whenever he gets the chance.

He is, indeed, a brave warrior, and becomes a dangerous combatant if really pushed, but his relaxed demeanor often gets him in trouble. For instance, he gets himself enchanted with a sleep charm, forcing his compatriots to drag his unconscious body along.

Nevertheless, it looks like Bombur has a rather cushy life after everything settled down, as Frodo finds out that he had put on so much weight that it required the assistance of multiple people to carry him from one place to another.

Four of the Dwarves are confirmed to still be alive during the War of the One Ring, or at least in its initial stages. The two young dwarves represent the union of Elves , Men, and Dwarves that once existed before Dale fell, and which will rise again. Dwarf of Thorin and Company; nephew of Thorin Oakenshield. Tolkien states that many Dwarves, both male and female, chose not to marry. Not having a direct descendant to rule after him would not have seemed problematic to a Dwarf king.
