I had the score seven rounds for Pacman Pacquiao and five rounds for Money Mayweather. I scored rounds: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10 for Pacquiao and rounds: 1, 5, 6, 9, and 12 for Mayweather.
How did I score it this way with all of the rounds clearly supporting Floyd? The answer is that I felt Pacquiao landed the harder shots. When Manny landed on Floyd and swarmed all over him I could see the fear in Mayweather.
His body language manifested a spirit and a heart that was scared hence all the clinching and hugging. Every time Pacquiao tried to get close Floyd would either move away or he would grab him and hold him until the referee broke them up. I feel that Pacquiao landed the harder shots and I also feel that he was the aggressor throughout the entire bout.
Manny Pacquiao was the one chasing Floyd, trying to corner him, and trying to engage him in a fight. On the other hand, Floyd Mayweather was running and hugging scared. The truth is, he fought like a coward. When Mayweather fought DeLa Hoya he won by a split decision but Oscar got closer to beating Mayweather than anyone has before. The third fighter that both have fought is Ricky Hatton. Hatton was confident going into the bout but was flattened by Pacquiao in two rounds, being knocked down twice in the opening round and then knocked out cold in the second.
Hatton gave Mayweather some troubles as Mayweather admitted that he was very hard to keep off but eventually knocked Hatton out in the tenth round with a TKO victory. Some would say that Pacquaio beating Hatton after Mayweather did devalues the victory but I think the fact that Pacquaio fought Hatton at light-welter equals the fights over. Hatton was taken out by Mayweather in 10 rounds but Manny took out Hatton in 2 rounds, so I think Manny gets the edge here. I think that Manny has stylistic advantages over Mayweather too.
If Mayweather at all thinks that he can fight like he did against Marquez against Pacquiao then he is sadly mistaken as Manny will not be hesitant to throw shots and will be on Mayweather from the opening bell. I do not think Mayweather has the firepower to keep Manny off at all so I think Manny will be on him all night.
My view is that Manny will be far too fast and strong for Mayweather and will have worked on cutting off the ring more with Roach for this fight, I think as soon as Mayweather is on the ropes then he will eat lots of punches from Manny. I see the fight going to a decision for Manny due to landing the harder punches in bunches or a late stoppage of Mayweather as I am not sure he will know what to do if he is hurt.
Follow boxingnews Butaev on Oct. The trick is to get the mind to control the heart, much as it is for the fighters when under pressure — and that is where I think Mayweather may have a slight edge. It could be the defining one. Almost certainly Pacquiao will give him the biggest test of his career because, as with all fighters, his boxing DNA will define how he fights — and that is throwing, sharp, fast punches at angles and in bunches. And that is where Mayweather wants him.
The art of counterpunching is sometimes misunderstood: all boxers are counterpunchers to some extent, because they answer incoming assaults with their own. It is in the timing of the return fire that they differ, and no one in modern boxing picks his moment better than Mayweather.
He is an impetuous fighter, not a stupid one.
