He played regularly for the Mets for 4 years. I could see forgetting he was a Dodger or a Brewer or a Blue Jay, but he played more games for the Mets than he did with the Yankees. I remember when my Tigers traded you, it hurt that day, one of the classiest Tigers to ever wear the English D.
Solid Career Grandy, wish you would have gotten a ring! Very nice career. Watching him hit triples early in his career was exciting. Would like to see him back with the Yankees in some capacity.
One of my favorite players before, during and after his stint with the Yanks. Just a really, really good spokesman for the sport, for minorities, etc. I hope the Yanks offer him something with the team. Great guy to mentor kids, He would bring class to any organization. Not close to a HOF with the numbers but if statesman ship mattered he would be a 1st ballot guy.
Thanks for that, enjoy your well-deserved retirement. He was a beast on the field. But even a better human being. One of the most well-spoken players in the game.
I remember seeing him in the postseason booth when he was still playing with Detroit and wholeheartedly agree. Very smart and articulate. With hiring former players with no experience being all the rage, Grandy has got to be cut out for it as much as any of them. I could see him writing the book on connecting with players if he chooses to go that route. Call me crazy, but Granderson is one of my favorite all time players. Best of luck in retirement! Not crazy at all.
He is one of your favorites for one or many of your reasons. It was so easy to root for him. He was pure class, and he had a damn good career playing to boot. Thanks for the memories, Grandy Man!
There has been many players in the majors, many have better statistics but for class, humility and that infectious smile i doubt many will be as beloved as Grandy.
Was a pleasure to watch you play, a greater pleasure to listen to you and your love of the game came across in both in abundance. Great guy all the way around. Congrats on a great career for the Grandyman.
I would not get surprised to see him coaching one day. I did always love him when he played here. Very respectable career. I doubt he makes the Hall of Fame, but he should end up with a few votes at the bottom of the results. Awesome human being and career. Happy retirement! I love going back to read about the three team deal he was involved in just to read sentences like these. I really appreciated Grandy when he was with the Mets.
I met him at spring training a few years ago and he was just as classy as he came across on TV. This is just a personal hunch, but I could see Granderson as MLBPA director someday given his very strong reputation in the game and his active role with the union during his career.
One of the good guys — he will be missed. Just a terrific, fun player, Well-liked everywhere he went, always worked hard. Completely agree. If you ever heard his name on the news during the season, it was because of a great game he had. Always had a soft spot for Granderson going back to his days with the Tigers.
Hard not to love this player and what a guy. He will be missed on the field. Hope he shows up elsewhere in the booth, as a coach, or as a manager. Hope it lands in the game. Oddly enough, I never mixed up Maybin and Jackson with each other though. The announcers described how Granderson, when it became apparent that he would be moved at the deadline, went around to every office at Citi Field and thanked all the staff for the work they did to support him and his teammates.
By all accounts, the Grandy Man treated everyone with dignity and respect. Be smart, be safe, Curtis. Enjoy that retirement. Granderson will end up in a front office. I could see him as a GM. I could definitely see him behind the MLB studio desk. A future Tim McCarver kind of announcer. My bet? Front office. Start as an asst.
Move up from there. Al Avila would be wise to consider him in Detroit. How time flys. Seems like just yesterday.
